The Fairy Ury in the Mystic Night of Eronyk
MORE DIGITAL SERIAL ART

These stamp images, which give us some rather luxurious shades of
blue and blue violet, suggest the art of the Fauvists, that early 20th
century group of European artists, which included Matisse, Dufy,
Derain, and Vlaminck.

My palette here is digital, rather than relying on paints, of course.
This is suitable for cyberstamps, those faux postage editions that
only exist in Cyberspace.

ETHER VS. CYBERSPACE

The Mystic Night of Eronyk is not a metaphor for Cyberspace,
but refers to the etheric world of fairies, as related in my other posts
about Urissakzillia.

with the Cinderella Printing House Ltd. The Urissakzillian Mint
is in an archaic fortress on an island in the Lake of the Daymoon.
The capital city of Urissakzillia is Namsel. The currency system is
based on the Urissakzillian Thaler, which is worth 100 Kronik.

Fauvist Cyberstamps by Eric Whollem

The term 'cyberstamp' is variously used. The purist would define a
cyberstamp as a digital image of the faux postage or cinderella genre,
presenting the design of a stamp not yet issued on paper with perforations.
Thus the perforations seen in such a cyberstamp image are ones that are
computer generated--a digital fantasy.

However one sees the term 'cyberstamp' more loosely used as well,
indicating merely that the stamps seen on a webpage online are
just that: stamps seen on the computer screen. These could be actual
postage stamps issued by countries for postal use, as well as artist stamps
created by individual artists.

More Digital Serial Art
FIGURATIVE ABSTRACTION

During the last year or so I have explored the potentials of serial
art as rendered by digital means. The minisheet of cyberstamps
depicted above is an example of the Fauvist colorization made
possible by computer graphics programs. The original drawing
was executed in black inks, enhanced by mixed media, including
metallic ink colors.

Stamps From Cantharidia

These stamps are denominated in the old fashioned British 'tuppence,'
which means 'two cents.'  I have taken the artistic liberty of making
Cantharidia a stamp issuing micronation based on a Brittanic model.
Some of the stamps of Cantharidia are earmarked with denominations
of a shilling, which is designated by '1/-', etc.

Digital Art in the Faux Postage Stamp Medium

When working in digital art an artist is often plagued by
the multitude of choices involved in selecting the best color
composition among the variations possible. But this is not
a problem for the artists who work in cyberstamps.

This work, 'The Mystic Muse,' began as an ink drawing,
enhanced by metallic inks and a variety of mixed media.

The Land of the North: Uttarakuru
STAMPS FEATURING THE MAP TO SHAMBHALA NOR

This sheet of eight cyberstamps commemorates Eric Whollem's
new Map to Shambhala Nor, which was previously posted on this
blog.

Depicted on these artist stamps is that portion of the map that
represents Uttarakuru, which means 'The Land of the North.'
This name is Sanskrit. It relates to the Shambhala mystery,
Shambhala being the mystic realm of inner illumination, often
viewed as a lost region in Central Asia.

Maps to Shambhala have been created over the centuries, beginning
with square mandalas created by the Bon Po, the shamanic
precursors of the Buddhists in Tibet.

New Cyberstamps From Shambhala Nor

Kalki is the legendary King of Shambhala, a mystic land whose capital
city is Kalapa. Kalapa is named after Kalapini, the Black Ocean--which symbolizes
the black sea of night. Kalapa is on a central island, surrounded by eight island
realms in the archaic Bon Mandalas that relate more to the shamanic traditions
of the Altai of Central Asia.

Green Tara, the Buddhist Goddess rose from the waters with the
Prajnaparamita teachings, having given  to Nagarjuna those teachings
entrusted to the care of Makara, the King of Sea Serpents by the Buddha.

THE LAKAVANTARA SUTRA

Buddha is said in the Lankavatara Sutra to have spent seven
days at the bottom of the sea, preaching to the Nagakanyas, or aquatic
demigods. In western metaphysical parlance, this could be interpreted
as Buddha preaching in the 'Astral World.'  The disciples of Buddha are
described in Buddhist scriptures as Mahanagas, or Great Sea Serpents.

Other metaphysical systems have utilized the serpent imagery in a similar
way: the cult of Serapis, a gnostic order that originated in Egypt.

Tara is depicted on this faux postage stamp from Shambhala Nor rising
from the mystic lake, as such she could be seen as relating to the mermaid
concept. Tara means 'star,' and as such is kindred to Atargatis, the dolphin
goddess of the Neareast.

waters on this link:

ARTIST STAMPS FROM THE MICRONATION OF SHAMBHALA NOR

This is a sheet of eight faux provisional postage stamps from
the Central Asian Realm of Shambhala Nor. This is a micronation
created by the artist.

Depicted on the designs are those portions of my Map to Shambhala
Nor that show Kalki, the King of Shambhala and Green Tara, rising
from the waters of the mystic lake of Shambhala Nor. This is in part
my own take on traditional legend, and as such should not be
construed as encyclopedic material.

It is the artist's hope that these stamps may generate interest in the
Shambhala legends and the spiritual milieu of Tibet and Central
Asia.

The Provisional Post Office of Kalapa

These stamps are postal fantasy issues from what appears to be a
provisional post office. Provisional postage stamps are those that are
issued by a local government, city, county or province in lieu of regular
postage stamps being available from the postal authority of the country
in which the provisional post office has been set up. These have historically
been available for limited postal use, though usually the stamps are not
recognized by the Universal Postal Union or other postal authorities as
postally valid.

These stamps, being artist stamps, or faux postage renders the designation
of 'provisional post' to the realm of fantasy. Thus these are 'faux provisional
stamps.'

CINDERELLA STAMPS FROM SHAMBHALA NOR

These stamps depict the Tibetan female teacher Ye-shes
m'tsorgyal, who was one of the great interpreters of Dakini
wisdom in Tibet.

Her name means 'Sea Wisdom,' and is rendered in Sanskrit
as Jnanasagara.

Her writings contain in part a description of how King
Kalki of Shambhala will arise to restore Buddhism from
the ravages of the barbarians.
