GWOG'S EXPEDITION TO PLUTO

Curiosity lead Gwog to explore much further into space than the moons of Neptune and Pluto. He established a Provisional Post Office at Pluto Station on Pluto. The stamps seen here show photos of Pluto's surface (as taken by Eric Whollem lol).

Gwog in his notes on Gondwana Astrogeology says: 'The rocks of Pluto are pretty, but lacking in flint, which is the primary necessity for any colony to survive in the depths of space. I found what appeared to be pools of water in some craters on Pluto. On closer examination I found this merely to be copper sulfate crystals, useless to the Gondwana except for inclusion in a junior chemistry set.'

GWOG'S TRIP TO NEPTUNE

After arriving on the Moon, at the invitation of the government of the Republic of the Moon, Gwog was honored by a special counseling session with Quantus Qwo, the Postmaster General of the Moon.

Mr. Qwo informed Gwog of the knowledge of Space privy to the Loonese. It was believed from the Syzygdite Records that the geological formations of Neptune and it's moons might well have the sort of mineral wealth that Gwog was seeking, namely flint deposits, so valued in Gondwanaland.

After exploring Neptune by Paleowarp Facilitator, Gwog found that Neptune's methane atmosphere was inimical to the prospects of ever lighting a campfire. And no flint could be found. But he had hope that in his further explorations of the moons of Neptune that Mr. Qwo would be proven right.

GWOG'S TRIP TO GONDWILLI

Gwog, the Postmaster General of Gondwanaland, was the first 'astronaut' from this ancient civilization on earth. His time travel machine, called the Paleowarp Facilitator, allowed him to travel to any place in space and time.

Gondwilli, or New Gondwanaland, is the name given by Gwog to Titania, the moon of Neptune. When Gwog discovered that the geology of Gonwilli was primarily of a flint matrix, that settled the question of where to take his people.

To the Gondwana flint is better than gold!

GWOG'S TRIP TO THE MOON

After the Republic of the Moon developed time travel in the year 2215 A.D., they sent an expedition to earth. Arriving in the ancient civilization of Gondwanaland, they quickly became friends and began technological cooperation. Even a Gondwana-Loonese Postal Union was established. The Paleowarp is the name of the Time Travel Machine as dubbed by the Gondwana. It's prototype was the Loonese Warp Facilitator. (The folk of the Moon prefer to be called Loonese.)

One might well ask how Paleowarp time travel works. First, recognizing that three dimensional objects meet with more physical resistance, the Loonese Warp Facilitator was a device that allowed the time traveler to enter a two-dimensional 'envelope.' This envelope in essence allowed the time traveler to be 'mailed' to any place in space and time. Thus the cameo stamp of Gwog seen on this issue is really not so much a portrait of Gwog as a representation of the microchip used by Gwog for his Paleowarp Transference. These chips were manufactured in Gondwanaland, using the most recent flint knapping technologies.

Gwog, the Postmaster of Gondwanaland thus became the first Time Traveler from earth to the Moon, He adjusted his machine a bit roughly, arriving on the Moon in the year 1967. As he was travelling through a billion years of time, this was as close as he could get at first to the era of the Republic of the Moon, which he hoped to visit.

On the Moon he met a certain American astronaut, Neil Armstrong, Gwog greeted Neil, saying: 'One small step for Gwog, one great step for Gondwanakind.'

According to records, Neil had no memory of this encounter, perhaps a post traumatic trauma from seeing a Caveman on the Moon. But nevertheless this established Gwog as the first man on the Moon, as is recorded in the Annals of the Loonese.

Gwog, after searching around a bit, decided finally to go by Paleowarp to greet Quantus Qwo in Moonton for an exchange of official greetings and a bit of fun, seeing the sights of Loona. Mr. Qwo is Postmaster General of the Republic of the Moon, and had invited Gwog to visit him as soon as his time machine, or Warp Facilitator, as it is called, was in order.

Keep posted to this blog for more about the explorations of Gwog through Time and Space.

THE PALEOWARP FACILITATOR

After Time Travel was successfully completed between the Moon and the ancient civilization of Gondwanaland, the use of the Loonese Warp Facilitator, a device allowing mail to be sent to any place in time, was developed in Gondwanaland. The only glitch was not knowing the names and addresses.

The Gondwana called their time warp mail delivery system the Paleowarp Facilitator.

The Republic of the Moon, recognizing the Gondwana desire for communications, sent a complete list of Loonese paraphilatelists to the Gondwana Postal Administration. Thus a new era of pen pals arose.
This greatly influenced the course of history.

THE WARPONAUGHT ARRIVES

THE WARPONAUGHT

Aelurus was the first Time Traveler from the Moon. He is seen here in the petroglyphs of Gondwanaland depicted on this stamp, issued a billion years ago. Warponaught, like our word, Astronaut, indicates a space traveler. As time and space are pretty much the same thing.

Though the first expedition of Aelurus was a failure, his second was a phenomenal success. The Gondwana Loonese Postal Union was established and relations flourished between the countries.

Gondwana stamps are a bit more traditional than those of the Moon, utilizing dehydrated peterodactyl wing paper and extra virginal dinosaur inks, etc. while the stamps of the moon, after the great paper shortage of 2210 were printed on nanoplastic papers, from ores mined on the moons of Neptune and elsewhere in space.

The Loonese, or inhabitants of Loona, the location of the Republic of the Moon, were originally philatelists from earth, who seeing a decline in the use of stamps on earth, a planet plagued by anti-philatelic attitudes, migrated to the moon, not as colonists, but rather as people seeking philatelic freedom. Their logo is the Lunar Cinderella, known also as Lunar Liberty.

MERMAID MAIL FROM AMPHORA

This letter is from the Library of Hippocampus, an ancient repository of the Knowledge of the Sea Horses. The Library houses unique books on the metaphysical lore of the Sea Horses.

The legend of VOLTUMNA is found in manuscript form in a special glass case beneath the sea, where it can easily be read by Aquatic folk of today.

Amphitritonia is a Kingdom in the northwest of Amphora. Hippocampus is the capital city of Amphitritonia, a member state of the Amphoran Postal Union, which includes Merreminde, the Isle of Buto, Delphys, and Nereidia, as well as remote outlying islands such as the Isle of Timbae and the Jessamine Isle.

MERMAIDS ON STAMPS

The sculpture of this stamp is by Eric Whollem. Nereid means mermaid in Greek. According to the Greeks, the Nereids are saviors of sailors at sea.

The Map of Amphora is seen on the letter from the Library of Hippocampus. Amphora is the old name in astrology for the sign of Aquarius. Thus Amphora is the Continent of the Aquarian Age.

WARP MAIL FROM THE MOON

In the future the Moon developed a Time Machine that was useful in not only delivering mail, but also sending the mailman back in time. Why is it that we always talk about the future in the past tense?

This rare historical cover from Binky and Boscoe's Paraphilatelic Museum on Titania, the Moon of Neptune tells all. Pappy Pete, whose antique 1952 Remington typewriter addressed this envelope, was a collector of relics from earth.

He probably thought that he could get stuff on the cheap from Gondwanaland.

Here he writes to the Sabertooth Pawnshop in Western Gondwanaland. The cover is graced by not only the star shaped cancellations from the Republic of the Moon, but a billion year old cancellation from the Gondwanaland Post Office, saying 'Received 1,000,000.000 B.C.E.'

TIMBUKONE

Timbukone, in the desert of Western Gondwanaland, was the locale of the site that is now known as Timbuktu.

Sabertooth Pawnshop is just one of many businesses found in the Cave Mall found there. See my map below for the exact location.

LUNAR LIBERTY

These stamps were created by a group of philatelists, who finding that earth's postal systems had been taken over by emails, etc. decided to migrate to the Moon, to establish a nation where traditional stamp values could follow the tradtions dear to their hearts. :)  Lunar Liberty is the logo of the Republic of the Moon, otherwise known as the Lunar Cinderella.

The script on the stamp was created by Cudley, the first postmaster of the Moon. The dialect of the Moon is Loonese. The Loonese refer to the moon as Loona. The Asteri is the currency of  The Republic of the Moon.

One finds many horse and rider ceramic sculptures mostly in the Mediterranean region of the world. These are separated by many hundreds of years, so they do not share a common cultural relationship or tradition. These represent a popular theme in the human imagination.

I have created quite a few similar scuptures over the years. This photo was taken near Yosemite Park in California.

This philatelic fantasy cover is written from the lunar space agency to the postmaster of the Moon. Everything you see here is digital; the stamps, the handstamp, the envelope and the postal cancellation and the labels.

Cybermail differs from 'mail art' in that it exists only  in cyberspace, which is about as close as we can get to the Moon at this period of time. LOL.

This stamp shows Aelurus, an astronaut (or 'Warponaught') from the Republic of the Moon in the year 2215. At this time the Loonese (inhabitants of Loona, or the Moon, as we call it), were developing Time Travel.

These stamps are posited as being issued by the Moonton Mint, a government printing house on Loona.

This is a definitive issue, for general postal use on the Moon. The Asteri is the currency of Loona.

CYBERMAIL ART FROM THE MOON

The Republic of the Moon began developing Time Travel in the year 2215. :) They called their machine the Warp Facilitator. Unfortunately due to the fact that their astronaut (Warponaught) Aelurus came into contact with Pappy Pete's flintlock firearm, a relic from ancient history on earth, he inadvertently became tainted with archaic bear DNA from the bear grease used to keep the relic in working order.

To make a long story short, Aelurus was transformed into a bear on the Time Travel Mission. Because of this, Pappy Pete lost his job as security guard at the Warp Facilitator, and was demoted to a job at the Moonton Zoo, feeding the bears. Aelurus was assigned to cage 42. Pappy loaned Aelurus his antique 1952 Remington typewriter, so he could write his memoirs, and also send out mail, etc.

Aelurus wrote this letter to the National Warponaughtic and Space Administration Payroll Division, as somehow they had forgotten to pay him his severance pay. This letter was sent at the Zoomorphic Rate, a boon to Aelurus. This is much cheaper than the Non-profit  Organization postal rate on the Moon.

Quantus Qwo, Warponaughtic Associate, and Postmaster General of the Moon, remarks: 'Though Aelurus's accomplishments in Time are now delimited by his transformation into a werebear, he now has an honorary position at the Moonton Zoo, as a chief attraction. He is very happy now as all the children of the Moon love his tricks and how he speaks such perfect Loonese.'

LOL

CYBERMAIL

Cybermail Art differs from 'Mail Art' in that it is entirely computer generated. Mail Art traditionally is mail sent through the physical mail. Mail Art is a popular genre for many stamp enthusiasts.

Everything on this cover is digital: the stamp, the cancellation, etc.

KUKSU & MORNINGSTAR

Kuksu is said by the Concow Maidu Indians of Northern California to be the first man. He and his bride Morningstar were created of mud on Table Mountain in Butte County, California. Kuksu is the basis of what is known as the Kuksu Cult, an important indigenous religion of early California.

The beliefs in Kuksu are found among many tribes through the state: the  Nisenan, the Pomo, the Wintun, the Miwok, the Cato, and the Patwin. The basic common thread among the practitioners of this religion is the emphasis on dreams as the basis of knowledge. Dreams are studied by initiates. Usually the leaders of the various tribes are proficient in dream recollection and interpretation.

Click on Maidem Kodom on my Art Blog search labels list and you will pull up images of more stamps of Maidem Kodom.

MAIDEM KODOM

Maidem Kodom means The Country of the People in the dialect of the Concow Maidu. As a fantasy stamp designer, I chose this name for the issuing postal service for these stamps. Of course, such a postal service only exists in imagination.

I have dedicated this stamp to the memory of Herb Puffer, who was the owner of Pacific Western Traders in Folsom, California. He was a philanthropist who helped the Native Americans of California in keeping alive the unique traditions of the indigenous peoples of California. I know, for example, that he bought costumes for the Yokut Indian traditional dancers of the San Joaquin Valley. He also helped produce a record of Maidu traditional music on vinyl. Much more can be attributed to this man who invited me to his Pow Wows in Folsom.

CHI CHI TE

Chi Chi Te, or Black Earth Village, is a place that I lived off an on for many years back in the 20th century. My friends and neighbors were Concow Maidu Indians.

You will notice that in the design of this stamp is a bear mask. The black bear, or Pano, is sacred to the Maidu.

Also you might notice that elements of lithic culture, or stone flaking for arrowheads or other stone tools is used the designs seen on this stamp. The large figure in the center is Kuksu. Morningstar is up to the left.

Chi Chi Te is just one traditional village site on Mooretown Ridge in the Feather Falls area of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

POSTER STAMPS AND ART STAMPS/ Digital Paintings by Eric Whollem/ 'Archaic Emanations'/ Figurative Expressionism/ VIRTUAL STAMPS

POSTER STAMPS AND ART STAMPS

These stamps are digital paintings by Eric Whollem. In the processes of making such a painting, many color and textural varieties occur. These stamps demonstrate the digital embossing technique.

A 'poster stamp' is a non-postal stamp that is used as an advertisement, announcement, or promotion for an idea, as opposed to a 'faux postage stamp,' which is a postal fantasy. Poster stamps were quite popular in the late 19th century.

The 'artistamp' concept was developed by Bidner in 1982. He was involved in the mail art movement.
Artistamps are very often faux postage stamps, but others, without denominations or fantasy country of origin could be considered poster stamps, in this case promoting an artistic idea.

The term 'Art Stamp' was first used as parcel of the poster stamp collecting craze of the early twentieth century. The Art Stamp Society arose, promoting albums for collectors. Stamps of film stars were popular at the time. But the classical 19th century poster stamps were also avidly collected at the time.

Today a good example of contemporary commercial poster stamps are Starbuck's Coffee stamps, which are now popular collectibles.
