ATLANTEAN CIVILIZATION
Ignatius Donnelly developed the idea that Atlantis was more than just a lost continent, but rather represented a civilization that extended to most of the continents of the world. From the shores of India, to the Baltic Sea region, to Mexico and the Mississippi River Valley, to the Amazon and the Andes in South America.
These ideas greatly influenced ideas of Lemuria, as espoused by such writers as Helene Blavatsky and James Churchward, who had similar views of Lemurian Civilization. Many early thinkers on Lemuria thought of Lemuria existing either as an island in the Indian Ocean, Central Asia, or the Pacific Ocean. Lemurian culture has been thought to have existed in Mexico, South America, and as far north as Mt. Shasta in California.

ATLANTIS
map by Eric Whollem
2004
My own fantasy map of Atlantis, created in 2004 to illustrate a book which showcased some of my early Atlantean stamp fantasies, has been interpreted by modern writers. Brill published an article on my map in 2012.
My first Atlantean and Lemurian stamps were created in the 1990's, but I continue to issue new designs from time to time.
