THE VIOLET FLAME

The Violet Flame is part of the spiritual lore of Mt. Shasta.

Violet is from the highest vibration of the color spectrum.

As such it corresponds to the crown chakra, or  pituitary

center of the mind.

THE GOLDEN PORTAL OF INITIATION

This stamp, designed on an antique word processor from the 1980's, shows the blue figure
of an Initiate standing at the door of the  Lemurian Temple.

Initiation involves the transmission of psychic insight and spiritual knowledge to an aspiring
student of wisdom.

Mabel Collin's book, Through the Gates of Gold, furnished the symbolic ideas found
in this stamp. Her book, Light on the Path, is a profound spiritual treatise.

This stamp features an original photo by Eric Whollem,

showing formations in a lava flow in Northern California.

It is easy to see faces and figures in this formation. Rocks

and stones are traditionally ascribed to those elemental spirits

called gnomes.

LEMURIAN SHAMANISM

The centerpiece of this stamp design is a mixed media painting by

Eric Whollem.

In the culture of the Indians of California the bear is prominent. Among

some Indians the bear doctor is a shaman with healing powers.

PAN, GOD OF THE FAIRIES

This stamp features a collage of cut paper and photos of Mt. Shasta

by the artist. Included is an image of my ceramic sculpture of Pan,

now in a private collection in Mendocino.

The Era of Pan is said by metaphysicians to have predated Lemuria.
It was a time of fairylike reality, ruled by archangelic spirits that

imaginatively guided evolution.

Pan in Greek lore is said to have had legs of a goat. But in Greece

the dolphins were called the goats of the sea. A prototype for Pan

is the Mesopotamian god, Ea, (Wisdom), born of the Starwhale,

Derceto. He is shown with goat's legs and a fish tale. Ea was very

beneficent, being a noble teacher of humane laws. Aristotle noted

that Ea was among the first to bring civilization to mankind.

Ea could be described as a merman shaman. His named is

transcribed as Oannes by some. Many have seen the story of

Oannes as a prototypical legend which is reflected in the

Biblical story of Jonah and the Whale.

Thus Pan may have a link to the dolphins. His famous pipe evokes

the sonic melodies of the cetaceans (whales and dolphins).

Ea's mother, Derceto's name breaks down into der for Star

and ceto for Whale. In later Syriac and Nabatean lore Atargatis

is the Starwhale. The Buddhist Goddess Tara, meaning star,

is said to have dwelled in the ocean rather like a mermaid.

Students of mythology may enjoy these cross-cultural

observations.
