New Cyberstamps From Shambhala Nor

Kalki is the legendary King of Shambhala, a mystic land whose capital
city is Kalapa. Kalapa is named after Kalapini, the Black Ocean--which symbolizes
the black sea of night. Kalapa is on a central island, surrounded by eight island
realms in the archaic Bon Mandalas that relate more to the shamanic traditions
of the Altai of Central Asia.

Green Tara, the Buddhist Goddess rose from the waters with the
Prajnaparamita teachings, having given  to Nagarjuna those teachings
entrusted to the care of Makara, the King of Sea Serpents by the Buddha.

THE LAKAVANTARA SUTRA

Buddha is said in the Lankavatara Sutra to have spent seven
days at the bottom of the sea, preaching to the Nagakanyas, or aquatic
demigods. In western metaphysical parlance, this could be interpreted
as Buddha preaching in the 'Astral World.'  The disciples of Buddha are
described in Buddhist scriptures as Mahanagas, or Great Sea Serpents.

Other metaphysical systems have utilized the serpent imagery in a similar
way: the cult of Serapis, a gnostic order that originated in Egypt.

Tara is depicted on this faux postage stamp from Shambhala Nor rising
from the mystic lake, as such she could be seen as relating to the mermaid
concept. Tara means 'star,' and as such is kindred to Atargatis, the dolphin
goddess of the Neareast.

See my faux postage stamp featuring an image of Nagarjuna and Tara rising from the
waters on this link:

Celebrating 'The Map to Shambhala' by Eric Whollem
ARTIST STAMPS FROM THE MICRONATION OF SHAMBHALA NOR

This is a sheet of eight faux provisional postage stamps from
the Central Asian Realm of Shambhala Nor. This is a micronation
created by the artist.

Depicted on the designs are those portions of my Map to Shambhala
Nor that show Kalki, the King of Shambhala and Green Tara, rising
from the waters of the mystic lake of Shambhala Nor. This is in part
my own take on traditional legend, and as such should not be
construed as encyclopedic material.

It is the artist's hope that these stamps may generate interest in the
Shambhala legends and the spiritual milieu of Tibet and Central
Asia.

The Provisional Post Office of Kalapa

These stamps are postal fantasy issues from what appears to be a
provisional post office. Provisional postage stamps are those that are
issued by a local government, city, county or province in lieu of regular
postage stamps being available from the postal authority of the country
in which the provisional post office has been set up. These have historically
been available for limited postal use, though usually the stamps are not
recognized by the Universal Postal Union or other postal authorities as
postally valid.

These stamps, being artist stamps, or faux postage renders the designation
of 'provisional post' to the realm of fantasy. Thus these are 'faux provisional
stamps.'

Her writings contain in part a description of how King
Kalki of Shambhala will arise to restore Buddhism from
the ravages of the barbarians.

Cantharidia is one of the numerous micronations that I have
developed over the years. Among these fantasy nations are
Shambhala Nor, Amphitritonia, Urissakzillia, Amphora,
Undinia, and the Republic of the Moon, most of which have
examples of their stamps on Art Blog/Eric Whollem.

Serial Art became popular in the sixties during the
'Pop Art' movement, when artists like Andy Warhol gave us
multiple images of commonplace objects like the Campbell's
soup can. Many of his portraits were done as serial art.
Serigraphy served well for the color variations in his serial
art, as the silk screen medium readily adjusts to changes
in ink color during the printing process.

Other serial artists include Constantin Brancusi and Josef
Albers. Sculpture as well as painting and printmaking are
mediums that lend themselves to serial imagery.

Two Cantharidian Stamps With Selvage Art by the Artist

These stamps are complemented by a line drawing showing a
mermaid resting in a great clam shell. This issue from the post
offices of the micronation of Cantharidia is dedicated to the Goddess
Aphrodite, who is famously associated with the clam by Botticelli.
She is described as 'born of the shell' in mythology and poetry, being
a Goddess of the Sea.

The Mythology of Aphrodite

Aphrodite is here shown in her first aspect as Pandemos, the virgin.
In her second aspect she is the Marina, the matron. Her third aspect
is the crone, Aphrodite Urania, the Goddess of Universal Love.

Her three aspects correspond to the colors white, red, and black, the
three colors traditonally ascribed to the Triple Goddess.

As the three Horae she was Tyche, Dike, and Nemesis and as the
Three Fates she was Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos.

Her designation of Marina relates to the Fates, Moira and Moera.
A 'fate' or 'fay' or 'fey' originally was an oracular priestess.

One of the simplest ways to generate new color variations is
to create a negative of one's digital art in progress. The results
