BELOW IS A STAMP VIDEO ABOUT LEMURIA

                                                 by Eric Whollem

The Era of Pan is said by metaphysicians to have predated Lemuria.
It was a time of fairylike reality, ruled by archangelic spirits that
imaginatively guided evolution.

Pan in Greek lore is said to have had legs of a goat. But in Greece
the dolphins were called the goats of the sea. A prototype for Pan
is the Mesopotamian god, Ea, (Wisdom), born of the Starwhale,
Derceto. He is shown with goat's legs and a fish tale. Ea was very
beneficent, being a noble teacher of humane laws. Aristotle noted
that Ea was among the first to bring civilization to mankind.

Ea could be described as a merman shaman. His named is
transcribed as Oannes by some. Many have seen the story of
Oannes as a prototypical legend which is reflected in the
Biblical story of Jonah and the Whale.

Thus Pan may have a link to the dolphins. His famous pipe evokes
the sonic melodies of the cetaceans (whales and dolphins).

Ea's mother, Derceto's name breaks down into der for Star
and ceto for Whale. In later Syriac and Nabatean lore Atargatis
is the Starwhale. The Buddhist Goddess Tara, meaning star,
is said to have dwelled in the ocean rather like a mermaid.
Students of mythology may enjoy these cross-cultural
observations.

Ancient Lemuria and Modern Art

Mt. Shasta is a traditional center for metaphysical speculations, among
which theories about the Lost Continent of Lemuria are paramount.
Local folklore has it that Shasta is a home of a remnant of a race of
people from the now sunken continent of the Pacific.

LEMURIAN FANTASY STAMPS
by Eric Whollem

Originally the stamps of Lemuria were mental "holograms" of a sort
applied by a projection of thought.

The stamps you see here, of paper and gum, are from the Late
Lemurian Period when matter reached  a degree of condensation
not dissimilar to our own time. (Classical Theosophical and
Rosicrucian thinkers originated these notions of evolutionary
physicality.)

A video by Eric Whollem, 2011

When humanity entered the Atlanean Epoch, the aetherial forms
of Lemurian life were said to be made solid and three dimensional.

I have issued these stamps to relate to the outer world the
folklore of Mt. Shasta from the 19th century to our day.

A video about Lemuria by Eric Whollem, 2011

Subsequent to the publication of "A Dweller on Two Planets"
a book was published by the Rosicrucians in the 1930's,
describing the continent of Lemuria. At that time what
were believed to be Lemurians in white robes appeared
in the town of Mt. Shasta, paying for food with gold
nuggets.

Helene Blavatsky's theosophical writings about Lemuria
and the Ascended Masters were one of the biggest
contributions to legends and folklore of the Mt.
Shasta area. Her book, "The Secret Doctrine," outlines
her views on the lost continent of Lemuria.

PHYLOS THE TIBETAN

This stamp features Phylos, who was a character in the 19th century metaphysical novel,
"Dweller on Two Planets." This book dealt mostly with Atlantis, but was written at Mt.
Shasta, California. It is believed to be  a psychically channeled work which gives the
teachings of the Tibetan mystic, Phylos.

My stamp design incorporates a collage of a photo of Shasta superimposed with a
ceramic amulet created by the artist. This pendant is now in a private collection, but
is one of many hundreds of similar ceramic works created since 1989.

I have utilized many of the natural earths of the Mt. Shasta area in the making of earth
paints for use on my ceramics as well as paintings on panel. Volcanic ash burns out in
a kiln firing, so many of  my ceramic pieces utilize volcanic paints as a final touch,
using polymer emulsion as a binder.

The Fairy Queen of the Tale of Tall Timber

TIMBERLINA

And that old Rainbeetle told this tale:

Having been born from a spring in a cleft of mossy granite, a little fairy princess grew up in the high mountains, among the streams and boulder-strewn meadowlands.

The Muse, the Anima, & the Soul Twin

The Muse, the Personification of
Imagination, Form, Color, and Beauty

The Muse is the Psyche of the artist. For the male artist it is often the female
form of his Other Half. The Muse is his Twin, his ultimate Soul Mate, his
flame from the diamond mirror of origins. His penultimate allegory.

Jung described the search for the Anima and the Animus. This terminology
describes the artist's obsession with his Muse. But one should not resort
to clinical orthodoxy in the pursuit of the truth about the dynamics of the
artist's soul. The search for the Anima is not necessarily one of turmoil,
and transmutations, but may travel into the langorous valleys of Imagination.

The term Anima literally means soul in Latin.

Heaven is meant for artists, as what is divinely imagined is eternal.

The Naiads' Domain

Mermaids of Inland Waters

The Naiad is a "freshwater" mermaid. Springs, lakes, rivers, and
wells are traditionally ascribed to the Naiads. However these waters
are not always free of salt; for many a hot spring has mineral salts and
sulphur.
It is at a hot spring that the subterranean waters rush forth into our
domain. Thus "freshwater" may be a misleading designation of the
Naiad.

The Naiads' cousin is the Nereid, the mermaid of the salt sea.

This video presents lore about the Naiads.

PROTECTORS OF THE HOT SPRINGS AND WELLS

The famous hot springs on the Salisbury Plain in England are named
for the Goddess Sulis. She is related to the Roman Salacia, the wife
of Neptune. On many Roman fountains images of Neptune abound.
Common words like saline and salt are hidden in Salacia's name.

Our European ancestors attributed healing and prophetic abilities to
the Naiad. The healing spirits, Hygeia and Aesculapius of Greece
are examples.

In France the Fays were the Naiads of the wells who blessed the
crops of grain. Melusine was one of the most famous Fays of
France.

The Dracs were French river Naiads, who are said to
travel on the waters in golden cups. These cups may be a folklore
rendition of the ancient lore of the cauldron, or Goddess Womb.

                                                *

The well known product, Bromo Seltzer, is named after a Naiad,
named variously Borvo, Borvoni, Bormo, Borvoni and Bormanus.

Other Naiads of the hot spring include Mephistus and Cloacina.
From this latter Naiad we get the modern soap product, Clorox.

Was Tide, a famous soap brand, named subconsciously for the
hidden correlations of the salt sea and the cleansing waters of the
hot spring? Humanity has a deep link to the mermaid and merman.
(What the world needs is a deeply esoteric study of the laundromat.)

Boraxo, famous from the TV series, "Death Valley Days," is based
on borax, a mineral deposited on the ancient sea floors of the
Great Basin of western America. (No offense is made to the manu-
facturers of these products, and in no way is the author connected
to them.)

ODYSSEUS AND THE SIRENS

In Homer's famous story of Odysseus, it is related that when
Odysseus returned to Ithaca, after being imperilled by the Sirens
at sea, he made offerings to the Naiads in a grotto. This demonstrates
that the Sirens were a different order of mermaid to the mind of our
sailor. Indeed, the Sirens are the scourges of the Gods, the law
servers of the world of the Gods, the "police" of the Gods, while
the nymphs of the grotto were tame by comparison, and amenable
to entreaties from mortals. Odysseus was a blasphemer of the
gods, an anti-hero.

Mermaid and merman art by Eric Whollem.

CELTIC MERMAID LORE

Sacred wells were very common in Celtic lands.  The Well of
Segais is one of the best known, being the headwaters of the
River Boyne. This well was circled by hazel trees with crimson
nuts. The salmons who ate these nuts were called "The Salmons
of Knowledge."

Liban was a Celtic fairy queen, a guardian of the wells, who could
take the form of a salmon.

MAIDU INDIAN MERMAN

The Maidu Indians in California have a salmon merman, or male
Naiad, named Woctolly (Waktali).

This video shows some of my Woctolly art.
DAKINIS OF THE LAKES

In Tibet lakes are the haunt of Dakinis, who essentially are the
Naiads of the Himalayas.

This video presents images of the Dakinis.
