THE WHITE DEER OF HISTAYAMI
In the realm of the Sutter Buttes in Central California, there is allegedly a herd of white deer. The white deer are sacred to Native American in California.
The Maidu Indians call the Sutter Buttes Histayami. It is said that Wonomi, the Earth Maker lives in those mountains. In my earth painting reproduced on these stamps I call Wonomi 'The Doctor at the Center of the World.'
