Ran and Aegir

Ran and Aegir live in a hall at the bottom of the sea.
The Norse say that the souls of sailors who drown
at sea are caught in the net of Ran. Aegir is a sea
giant.

It is said if the ghost of the departed sailor appears
at his funeral feast, he has been accepted in the hall
of Ran.

Aegir and Ran have nine daughters, each one of
which represents an aspect of the waves of the
sea.
