APHRODITE, BORN OF THE SHELL

These stamps depict one of my renditions of Aphrodite,
the Goddess of Love. Her Latin name was Venus.
Botticelli's work is clearly reflected in this design. I have
utlized cowrie shells in contradistinction to the Renaissance
version. I have retained Botticelli's orange trees, as these
have special meaning in my private mythology, wherein
my muse, Imagination, has as her fruit the orange.
The country of Amphitritonia is named not for Aphrodite,
but after Amphitrite, the dolphin goddess, who was the
bride of Poseidon. Amphi means water in Greek, while
Triton was a fish tailed Greek demigod.
