Poseidon, the Greek God of the Sea
A CINDERELLA STAMP FROM AMPHORA

Amphora is an example of what stamp collectors call
a "phantom" country, which is to say, a land created as
an artist's fantasy. These countries are also referred to
as micronations.

The sculpture on this stamp was previously depicted in
a post on this blog. For more about the role of Poseidon,
see my post of  January 21, 2010: Mermaid Faux Postage
Stamps/ Poseidon and His Trident.
