FAUX POSTAGE/ a ceramic figurine of Poseidon on the stamps of Amphora

The Empire of  Amphora
by Eric Whollem
editions of 100, plus ten artist's proofs
48 x 79 mm.
Copyright by the artist.

Poseidon, the Greek God of the Sea

Amphora is an example of what stamp collectors call
a "phantom" country, which is to say, a land created as
an artist's fantasy. These countries are also referred to
as micronations.

The sculpture on this stamp was previously depicted in
a post on this blog. For more about the role of Poseidon,
see my post of  January 21, 2010: Mermaid Faux Postage
Stamps/ Poseidon and His Trident.

Artist stamps, artistamps, cinderella stamps, faux postage, mail art.
