THE THREE MERMAID QUEENS

A thousand years ago Queen Mer of Merreminde and her sister queens of the neighboring nations of Moruvgach and Arkonia created a special elite society for the advancement of mer kind.

The three flowers on the embroidered cover of their sacred pact, The Merrecunium, symbolizes their sacred union. Princess Sarrodiettu is ruler of Arkonia. Empress Merrianna is the leader of the folk of Moruvgach.

Treaties like the Edicts of the West Merreminde Postal Union, and the Alliance of Mermaid Entrepeneurs are just a few of the official links between these mermaid nations.

The postmasters of Moruvgach and Arkonia honored this cover as it passed to it's destination in Rotilli.

KEEL TOWN, MARITIME HUB OF MERREMINDE

Keel Town rose to prominence 500 years ago when it became the commercial and maritime epicenter of Merreminde. The ships of Merreminde have traveled to the far ends of Amphora.

This letter was sent to the Alayan Isles off the coast of Alaya, a nation closely linked to the Federal District of Amphora.  Also the location of the Amphoran Postal Union is in Utti on fhe Alayan coast.

THE QUEEN'S RETURN TO THE SEA

Once a year in Merreminde there is a sacred day called Aquagenesis, wherein the Queen of the realm is ritually encased in a special coffin, which is then sunk into the sea. A few days later she is seen swimming in the bay.

This letter was sent by The Mermaid High Command to the Seership Society in the City of the Moon, a nation state to the west of Merreminde in the Barbaru Highlands. The letter was passed by the Zukka postal censor, who may have been alerted to reports of contraband seaweed arising out of Mereminde, (a false report, by the way). The Loonese people of the City of the Moon were required to charge a postal tax of 800 Asteris to release the letter from the Gartuw Dead Letter Office in Zukka.

Neighboring nations to Merreminde have little real comprehension of the significance of the sacred rites of the mermaids.

SPECULATIONS ON THE ANCIENT HOMELAND OF THE WELSH CELTS

Cymru is one of the old names for Wales....but anciently the Summer Isles were known as the mythic homeland of the Cymry folk. The stamp on this cover is my fantasy interpretation of the postal system of the Summer Isles.

I theorize that the Summer Isles may represent Crimea, as many of the singing traditions of the Caucasians who migrated into Crimea involve their Bardic lore, which corresponds in many details to that of the Eistedfodd music of the Welsh.

The Crimeans today call themselves the Kirim, a term not dissimilar to Cymry. Also it is of passing interest that the Crimean Peninsula has long been considered a summer retreat for Russians and Ukrainians. The Kirim are related to the people of the Caucasus Mountains.

MEDINI'S WALLPAPER FACTORY

Stamp collectors often refer to the proliferation of cinderella stamps from the Trucial States area of the Arabian Peninsula as 'wallpaper stamps.'

However in Waraq Aljudran, found today in southwestern Amphora, wallpaper is a commodity held in high regard. The factory in Medini proudly manufactures sacks, rick sheets, oil sheets and tarpaulings as well as postage stamps. Few of the Waraq Aljudran stamps are large enough to cover a wall, thus the designations of philatelists from the Outer World are regarded with little acceptance.

Waraq Aljudran, in fact, literally translates from the Arabic as 'wall paper!" LOL

DARBOOR BIN McGILLICUDDY

Shortly after Scarabeus Binkel established his new pirate colony of Scarabia, using his new pseudonym, Zababba McBink, one of his navigators, Luther Cornweather, followed suit, creating his own colony to the south.  The sailors chose this center of operation after the fall of the Barbaru Frie Stajt to the onslaught of the notorious Digby Brothers. This was the beginning of that loose federation of tribal states called the Zababbian Emirates

Luther Cornweather chose the name Darboor Bin McGillicuddy and made Al Iriwa his capital. He found that the flowing robes typical of the desert dwellers made the best of disguises.....and he needed to keep low from the spying eyes of the scouts of the Digby Brothers.

Both Binkel and Cornweather were entrepenuers, conceiving themselves as philatelic pioneers in the heretofore non-postally developed desert lands of the shores of the Sea of Glass.

THE ZABABBA CAMEL EXPRESS

Darboor and Zababba conceived themselves as Hidden Imams, styling themselves after the famous Imams of Chokar and Duwan. They received tutelage in this lore from the desert dwellers who were indigenous to the region which they now provided with a uniform system of postal deliveries, though no one there in the primitive desert along the Glassy Shore  had ever conceived of a letter before . . . or much less a bill sent by mail . . . or an advertisement  or flyer from the market.

Having little recourse to horses, they turned to camels for  enterprise and courier purposes. Thus the Zababba Camel Express came to be.

McGILLICUDDY'S GLASS WORKS

Having practiced for some time as a glass blower on the Isle of Buto. Shiek Darboor Bin McGillicuddy soon made a name for himself among the desert folk. It was not long before Governor Tom in Vuyana to the south was sending orders to Duun al Saandi for trade beads to placate the savages which  had ravaged Taylorsville in Vuyana for some time.

Taylorsville is the namesake of Samuel Allen Taylor, who in  his old age made the jungles of Vuyana his home, seeking the quiet wilds for inspiration for his local courier post fantasy stamps, which were mostly discouraged if not completely outlawed in the savage lands of the civilized from whence he came.

It seems that the Sea of Glass region had become a sort of art colony for rogue paraphilatelists.

McGILLICUDDY'S STAMP EMPORIUM

Following Zababba's example, Darboor Bin McGillicuddy soon operated a packet service out of Duun al Saandi. The letter above was sent to a young philatelist who had been lodging at the Motta Hotel in Moonar. Timmy Jones was one of the first freckled faced escapees from the local desert orphanage youth camp to apply for McGillicuddy's approval service.

McGillicuddy found that exotic animal stamps sold much better that his official self portrait stamps. He treasured the expertise of McBink for the design and production of many of his packets. One of their special sales pitches was extolling the excellence of purchasing stamps directly from the pirates who made them, thus avoiding meddlesome middlemen, or middling meddlemen, as they liked to call them.
