SPECULATIONS ON THE ANCIENT HOMELAND OF THE WELSH CELTS

Cymru is one of the old names for Wales....but anciently the Summer Isles were known as the mythic homeland of the Cymry folk. The stamp on this cover is my fantasy interpretation of the postal system of the Summer Isles.

I theorize that the Summer Isles may represent Crimea, as many of the singing traditions of the Caucasians who migrated into Crimea involve their Bardic lore, which corresponds in many details to that of the Eistedfodd music of the Welsh.

The Crimeans today call themselves the Kirim, a term not dissimilar to Cymry. Also it is of passing interest that the Crimean Peninsula has long been considered a summer retreat for Russians and Ukrainians. The Kirim are related to the people of the Caucasus Mountains.

MEDINI'S WALLPAPER FACTORY

Stamp collectors often refer to the proliferation of cinderella stamps from the Trucial States area of the Arabian Peninsula as 'wallpaper stamps.'

However in Waraq Aljudran, found today in southwestern Amphora, wallpaper is a commodity held in high regard. The factory in Medini proudly manufactures sacks, rick sheets, oil sheets and tarpaulings as well as postage stamps. Few of the Waraq Aljudran stamps are large enough to cover a wall, thus the designations of philatelists from the Outer World are regarded with little acceptance.

Waraq Aljudran, in fact, literally translates from the Arabic as 'wall paper!" LOL
