A Map of Amphitritonia

Amphitritonia is a kingdom that exists in the Northwest of the Continent of
Amphora. A map of Amphitritonia appears above in the margin of this stamp.
This land belongs to the Amphoran Postal Union, which is composed of countries
that exist on Amphora. These include Merreminde, Undinia, and Delphys. Also
the city of New Urak is the international headquarters of the United Aethernet
Nations, a micronational league of nations.

These fantasy countries and organizations are the artistic creations of Eric
Whollem. See my links at the bottom of this post to find out more about them.

Goddess Sculptures With Earth Pigments For Surface Treatment

The sculpture named 'Red Goddess With Bowl' was patinated with
red iron ore found on Mooretown Ridge in Butte County, California.
This piece is among my earliest ceramic sculptures. I used a ceramic
glaze in the case of this work. The glaze acted as a resist to the red
earth paint that was applied after firing. I utilized acrylic emulsion
as the binder for the paint.

CERAMIC SCULPTURE VIDEO

                                         ERIC WHOLLEM

In the ceramic traditions of Mesoamerica surface coloration was always
applied after firing. Glaze was never used. Glaze was invented by the
Koreans, and later spread to Persia and to Europe. In the Americas
burnishing was sometimes done to a clay pot or sculpture, to give a
glossy finish.

After gathering my raw earth pigments, I filter them through cloth,
then break them down into fine powder with an iron mortar and
pestle. Most natural pigments gathered in nature will not fire onto
a ceramic surface. Adhesion requires a large percentage of clay material
in the pigment. Acrylic emulsion acts as a good binder for the surface of
a ceramic item, as it dries to a hard and waterproof seal.

The Bone Mountain Jamboree

of the Ookwook Mountains in the northeast of Sasquatchia. The festival
itself take place at Camp Gruumbo, just outside of Moowoop National
Park.

Rock slides, water spitting are provided for the kids, while amateur
musicians are given opportunities at the Breakfast Club (called the
'Guk' in Sasquatchian). The open mike at the Guk is one of the favorite
features of the festival outside the Main Stage in Sowbug Meadows.

The Music of Sasquatchia

The Bone Mountain Jamboree of 2009 featured the most famous
musical groups of Sasquatchia.

Googi and the Cubs, known especially for their top hit, 'Oomoaooooi,'
was the lead act, a hard one to follow.

The Oooahooph Octet became well known after Oozie's Beauty Parlor
was raided by paparazzi looking for what they thought was Eeeb, a
famous actress, getting her nails done. These paparazzi had connections
in entertainment, and soon the Oooahooph Octet was heard everyday
on Big Foot Radio ZBXK.

Various country bands such as 'The Stone Chippers,' 'The Wuh Wuh
Twins,' and 'Raarh and the Woophs,' were there for the traditionally
minded folk.

'The Bone Trumpets,' and 'Woowooh and Her Sticks' were novelty acts,
more in the jazz format, for progressive listeners.

And the final act was one that the younger crowd came especially to hear:
'The Sasquatchies,' a rock n' roll group with irresistable charm for all ages,
featuring the lovely lead singer, Aaaaoooie-ook, with her famous song,
'Omook Oop Oo Oo Ooop.'

Since this was the 3000th anniversary of the Bone Mountain Jamboree
only the very best of the best in Sasquatchian talent was on hand.

Googi and the Cubs

Googi's famous band began thirty years ago when the Cubs
were just little. They have stayed with their mom as harmony
back up for their music, which is still the rage of Sasquatchia.

Notes on the Empire of Sasquatchia

Philapedalphia is the capital city of Sasquatchia. There are many
outposts of the Sasquatch across the globe, but the highest civilized
society of the Sasquatch is found on the island seen in the map above.
Wug Wug, seen on the stamp above, is the Mayor of Philapedalphia.

Philapedalphia means 'The City of the Love of Feet,' thus roughly
translated from the Greek. The Sasquatch name of the capital is
unpronouncible in English, as vocal tones possible for Big Foot are
not easily rendered in modern linguistic approximations. There is
absolutely no connection between Sasquatchia and Pennsylvania,
except for the huge influx of Dutch American tourism since the
publication of this map. The Pennsylvanians have set up an embassy
on the shores of Eep Bay to accomodate their travelling populace.

The Pneumatic Research Facility near Philapedalphia is the place
where they developed their modern technology used in their postal
delivery: the pneumatic lava tubes used to deliver the mails. These
tubes are empowered by the exhalations of breath from the lungs of
sturdy postal workers.

The Blow Cave is the main Post Office of Sasquatchia. Letters blown
from this site are easily transported to the Red Cave or to the Kave
Korners Postal Facilities in the south of Sasquatchia. Thus far no
mail has been successfully sent to Pennylvania by Pneumatic Delivery.
A contingent of scientists from Pittsburgh is currently negotiating the
concept of a suboceanic pneumatic tube to expedite the international
mails.

SASQUATCHIAN DAILY LIFE

The Great Hairy Ocean is so named by the Sasquatch for the finely
textured seaweed that is found there in abundance. It is harvested
for food along with the copious shell fish of the northern coast. Fuzzy
Waters is the main site of the freshwater fishing industry of  the
empire. Prehistoric gar fish are found there in abundance, one of the
delicacies of Sasquatch cuisine.

Eep Bay is the site of many luxury resorts for retired Big Feet, while
Wookytown and Kootchy City vie for prominence as cultural centers
for Sasquatch youth. Wookytown is not named in traditional Sasquatch
language, but there has been an influence here by DVDs brought into
Sasquatchia by entrepeneurs seeking to establish international trade.

Rock City is the industrial captial of Sasquatchia, where chipped
limestone blocks are exported to Sasquatch marketing centers among
the tribes of the mainland. The Empire of Sasquatchia maintains a
fine fleet of merchant ships that regularly sail the Uk Uk Sea.

The Great Dirty Desert is a favorite site for dust bathing by Big Feet
of all ages, while the snow capped hills of the Ook Wook Mountains
have traditionally been the source for ice for manufacture of that
old fashioned sarsparilla sherbet so loved by all. Boog Sherbet has
the most famous sherbet in Sasquatchia and has outlets all across the
country.

INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION OF SASQUATCHIA

Currently the Commonwealth of Sasquatchia is a member nation of
the United Aethernet Nations. And the stamps of Sasquatchia are
considered internationally valid among members of the Amphoran
Postal Union.

The Pneumatic Postal System of Sasquatchia

The mail of Sasquatchia is unique in our modern times as it is based on
delivery of letters and even parcels through pneumatic tubes. These tubes
are not the sort of thing one might find in Western Civilization, but relies
on old fashioned Big Foot ingenuity. The postal clerks of Sasquatchia
use the vast lava tube system that underpins their island home. The larger
tunnels are fine for ease of access to various parts of the country which
serve as postal stations. But the final touches of mail delivery depend on
the exhuberant breath of the clerks who use lung power to force the mail
along those miniature and smooth lava tubes that so conveniently are in
abundance due to the great vulcanism of Sasquatchia's geology.

A video by Eric Whollem, 2011

These matters might be not especially believable to many who might read
this post. But most Big Feet who utilize the computer today may find
respite in the fact that at least one site takes them seriously in their efforts
to modernize and yet achieve a measure of respect for their ancient civilization.
