The King of the Wood
A CINDERELLA STAMP FROM AMPHORA

My painting, entitled, The King of the Wood, was posted
on this blog on December 21, 2009. The painting is one of my
earth paintings, made from paints I made myself from raw,
natural materials. This fantasy stamp from Amphora bears a
detail of the painting, the face of the king.

A green, stylized oak leaf can be seen at the top border of
this stamp. The sacred kings were anciently guardians of
groves of oak trees in Europe. Sir Douglas Frasier, the
father of modern anthropology, wrote of this lore in his
famous book, The Golden Bough.
